Jin-Feng Hu, born in Hubei Province (1967), studied organic chemistry at Lanzhou University, where he obtained his B.Sc. (1990) and Ph.D. (1996) degrees in Natural Organic Chemistry under the supervision of Professor Zhong-Jian Jia. He was a postdoctoral fellow (1996-1998) in the Department of Natural Products Chemistry, Institute of Materia Medica (Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College), with Professor Xiao-Zhang Feng. He joined the Hans-Knoell-Institute for Natural Products Research as a German BMBF & DLR fellow (1998-2000) with Professors Susanne Grabley and Ralf Thiericke. He moved to the United States as a postdoctoral associate at the Department of Pharmacognosy, the University of Mississippi, with Professor Mark T. Hamann (2000–2001), and at the Genomics Institute of the Novartis Research Foundation and The Scripps Research Institute, with Professor Peter G. Schultz (2001-2002). He left his position as a Principal Scientist in Natural Products Chemistry from Sequoia Sciences, Inc. (U.S.A.), where he worked from 2002 to 2006, and since has been a Full Professor of Natural Products for Chemical Genetic Research at the Key Laboratory of Brain Functional Genomics (Ministry of Education), East China Normal University. Most recently (2011), Dr. Hu joined the Faculty of the Pharmacy School at Fudan University and has been appointed as Chair of the Department of Natural Products Chemistry. His group is actively involved in the isolation, structure elucidation and synthetic optimization of bioactive natural products and chemical biology studies. He has authored over 80 scientific publications.

Alberto Alcibiades Salazar Granara is a Physician and has completed his PhD in Medicine and MSc in Pharmacology in the USMP, also, has a postdoctoral study in the Universidade de Sao Paulo School of Medicine, and the Universidade Federal de Rio Grande do Sul and Hospital Clinicas de Porto Alegre. He is the director of Center of Traditional Medicine and Pharmacology (USMP). He has published more than 20 papers in reputed journals, his interests are the studied the Peruvian medicinal plants, also, in discover off-label effect from the common drugs, likewise, the pharmacogenetic and pharmacokinetic highlight markers in Peruvian population.

Rahman graduated as a pharmacist from the Faculty of Pharmacy of University of Dhaka, Bangladesh in 1996. He worked for 3 years as a research and development pharmacist at SK&F Pharmaceutical before moving to academia in April 2001 and joined the Pharmacy department of University of Asia Pacific as a Lecturer. In October 2003, he was appointed as a Lecturer in pharmaceutical chemistry at Dhaka University and was promoted to Assistant Professor in June 2005. He was awarded a Commonwealth Scholarship in September 2005 to carry out doctoral studies in the United Kingdom. He completed his PhD research at the London School of Pharmacy (now UCL School of Pharmacy) under the supervision of Professor David Thurston (2009). He joined the CRUK Protein-Protein Interaction Research Group as a CRUK Research Fellow in July 2009. He was appointed as a Lecturer in Medicinal Chemistry at King’s College in May 2012.

Medicinal Chemistry

I completed my undergraduate studies in Pharmacy at Curtin University, Australia. I then went on to pursue my Masters(Res) in Chemoinformatics at the University of Sheffield where I was supervised by Prof. Val Gillet. I am currently under the supervision of Dr Andreas Bender where we are working on the computational analysis of diverse phenotypic effect databases in particular traditional medicine and natural products in the hopes of discovering the underlying target(s) modulated and the pathway(s) involved. I am also currently collaborating with the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) where we are utilising in silico approaches to analyse the mode-of-action and safety assessment of novel psychoactive compounds emerging in the EU and beyond.

I have been working on the computational analysis of diverse phenotypic effect databases in particular traditional medicine and natural products in the hopes of discovering the underlying target(s) modulated and the pathway(s) involved. I am also currently collaborating with the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) where we are utilising in silico approaches to analyse the mode-of-action and safety assessment of novel psychoactive compounds emerging in the EU and beyond. Currently, I am incorporating Cheminformatics and Bioinformatics approaches to predict protein targets for novel compounds as well as compounds for novel protein targets.

Gam Lay Harn is currently serves as a professor in School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Malaysia. She obtained her Ph.D in the field of Pharmaceutical Chemistry in the same university in year 2001 and was promoted to a full professor in year 2011. Her research study focuses on proteomics of organisms including human diseases, microorganisms and plants. She has published more than 50 papers in reputed journals and edited 5 books of cancer education to patients. She was assigned to a few administrative positions include program chairperson to Pharmaceutical Chemistry department, deputy director and technical director to Doping Control Centre Malaysia.

My research field is in proteomic study, where throughout my years of service in USM, I had identified useful urinary biomarker for diagnosis of kidney stone disease, protein biomarkers for differentiation of the source of gelatin either as halal or non-halal. We had obtained patents for both of these inventions. My other research interests are on cancer research and plant proteomics. In cancer research, we determined the changes of protein profilling in cancerous tissues of different stages, grades and race of the patient. While in plant proteomics, we have identified a few proteins with existing commercial values and we had also identified proteins with anti-cancer properties. Currently, we are embarking on proteomics, metabolomics and lipidomics studies of diabetic mice.

Xu is a professor in Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC), Associate Director of UIC Key Lab -Laboratory for Health Promotion Mechanism of Medicinal Food and Folk Remedy, author of over 90 peer-reviewed papers. Dr. Xu received Ph.D in Chungnam National University, South Korea. He conducted postdoctoral research work in North Dakota State University, Purdue University, and Gerald P. Murphy Cancer Foundation during 2005-2009. Dr. Xu is serving as Associate Editor-in-Chief of Food Science and Human Wellness, an Editorial Board member of several international journals.

Pharmacognosy and Natural Product Chemistry

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 15 of February of 1972. Fabio Boylan studied Pharmacy at Rio de Janeiro Federal University, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. From February 1996 to February 1998, he was Lecturer at the Department of Pharmacognosy, Faculdade de Farmacia, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His Master project "Phylogenetic Trends within Lamiiflorae" was sponsored by CNPq, a Brazilian Governmental Agency for 1.5 years and he got the degree after being evaluated by Dr. Otto Richard Gottlieb. His Ph.D. project "Chemical and Pharmacological Studies on Raphiodon echinus and Marsypianthes chamaedrys" was sponsored by CAPES, another Brazilian Governmental Agency. In several years he was awarded with grants from FAPERJ (Rio de Janeiro Research Supporting Agency) and FINEP in 2003 when he had the opportunity to chair the XII Italian-Latin-American Conference on Ethnomedicine. Also in 2003 he was awarded with a special grant from CNPq due to his scientific collaboration to the Brazilian Science. Fabio stepped up as a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in 1998. In 2006, he started his sabbatical year in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, TCD, where he further served as a research coordinator from 2007-2008 and now is a full time lecturer in Pharmacognosy. He acts an ad hoc reviewer for the following scientific journals: Brazilian Journal of Pharmacognosy, Brazilian Journal of Medicinal Plants, Brazilian Journal of Microbiology, Brazilian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Phytochemistry, Iheringia Zoologia (Section Botany), Phytotherapy Research, Current Medicinal Chemistry, African Journal of Pharmacology and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Pharmacognosy

Dr. Jamal Ouazzani completed his PhD in applied microbiology in 1988 from Paris XI University, France and obtained a permanent research position at the Centre National de Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in 1989. Since 2002, he has acted as Research Director at the CNRS Institut de Chimie Des Substances Naturelles (ICSN) and has headed the ICSN Pilot Unit. He has engaged in diverse consulting activities since 1996, for environmental, cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies and is a leading expert in the field of bioremediation. He has published more than 59 publications in peer-reviewed journals, has obtained nine patents and has benefited from European Commission grants in the context of four collaborative projects, including coordinating the project TASCMAR.

Dilip Ghosh has received his PhD in Biomedical Science from University of Calcutta, India. Previously, he held positions in Organon (India) Ltd.; HortResearch, New Zealand; USDA-ARS, HNRCA at Tufts University, Boston; The Smart Foods Centre, & Neptune Bio-Innovation Pty Ltd, Australia. He is a most sought after international speaker, facilitator and author. He is a fellow of American College of Nutrition, Professional member, AIFST, and also he is the Editorial Board Member of several journals. He has published more than 70 papers in peer reviewed journals, numerous articles in food and nutrition magazines and 4 books under CRC Press, USA.

Sreenivasan Sasidharan has completed his PhD from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2007. He is the Associate Professor in Institute for Research in Molecular Medicine of Universiti Sains Malaysia, a public University in Malaysia. He has over 160 publications with total impact factor of 175, multiple book chapters, significant grant support, and over 100 posters/abstracts at national and international meetings as well as Organizer, Keynote, Invited Speaker and chair of International & National Congresses. Has been serving as an Editorial Board Member and Reviewer of international journals. He reviewed more than 100 manuscript for international journal.

His research interests include medicinal plants and their role in Health and Disease Management, Molecular Mechanisms and Biology of Free Radicals, miRNA, Anticancer, Antioxidants, Antimicrobial and also isolations and identification of phytochemicals from local natural resources for various biotechnology purposes including green synthesis of gold nanoparticle. He also graduated more than 15 post graduate student as main supervisor.

Prof. Ciddi Veeresham has completed his PhD at the age of 32 years from Kakatiya University and postdoctoral studies from Cornell University, School of Biochemical engineering, USA. Presently working as Professor of Pharmacy, Kakatiya University, Warangal, India. He has published more than 135 papers in reputed journals and has been serving as an editorial board member of reputed Journals.

Dr. Saikat Sen is working as Associate Prof. in Assam down town University, Guwahati, India. He gained Ph.D in Pharmaceutical Sciences from JNT University Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh (2014) and has more than 8 years of teaching and research experience. He has authored two books, a number of book chapters and nearly 50 research and review articles in reputed national/international journals. His name was selected for the bibliography published by MARQUIS Who's Who in The World 2016, he also received monetary reward from J For Res. He involve enthusiastically in scientific research on traditional/folk medicinal system.

He actively involved in the research that involves traditional/folk medicinal system. Investigation on metabolic disorder, diseases related to oxidative stress is main focus of hs research.

Dr. Shamim Ahmad is Distinguished Professor of Microbiology & Officer In-Charge at Microbiology Section , Institute of Ophthalmology ,JN Medical College ,Faculty of Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University ,Aligarh ,India since January,10,1983 .He has recently been working as Superintendent of Examinations of the Faculty of Medicine, Officer In-Charge(Administration),Manager ,Blind School and many administrative positions at Aligarh beside having served as Faculty on deputation for more than 5 years at Faculties of Medicine abroad. He earned his Ph.D. degree in 1982 and obtained his Post Doc. training in various Departments of Microbiology at the Universities of world repute in six countries, being recipient of at least 6 International Fellowships including "DAAD (W.Germany) , "JSPS"(Japan)"ROYAL SOC. London"(UK),"DAAD"(Germany),"TUBA"(Turkey) and "SAIA"(Slovak Republic) Beside regular Undergraduate (MBBS) and Post Graduate (MS & DO) teaching of the Medical students ,he has been actively engaged in the teaching & practical Classes of some of the Professional Courses (DOA) .Professor Ahmad's research work mainly involved Multi resistant Eye Pathogens including Super Bugs MRSAs and their alternative treatment with newer antibacterial and innovative natural products especially the "Honey". Dr Minaketan Tripathy was born in the village Padmabati, State Odisha, India, in 1978. He obtained his bachelor, master (Pharmaceutics) and doctoral degrees in the field of Pharmacy in the year of 1998, 2001, and 2006 respectively. After serving different institutes in India, Mina joined the faculty of Pharmacy, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia as a senior lecturer in March 2008 and established the laboratory of Fundamental of Pharmaceutics. Mina believes in trans-disciplinary research and interdisciplinary linkage. The laboratory attracted many research grants, engaged with supervision of research students and published several scientific articles in journals of repute and as well conference proceedings.

Umesh K Patil has completed his PhD from Dr H S Gour University, Sagar and Postdoctoral studies from Institute of Biology, Leiden University. Presently, he is serving as General Secretary to Indian Society of Pharmacognosy. His area of specialization is Herbal Drug Technology and Natural Products. He has more than 15 years of experience in teaching and research. He is the recipient of 7 prestigious awards given in the field of HMPs and remained BOYSCAST Fellow of DST. He is a Member of many professional bodies including International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), International Society of Ethno-pharmacology (ISE), International Society for Medicinal Plant Research (GA), Germany, International Pharmaceutical Students Federation, International Society of Natural Product Development, APTI, IPA, IPGA, ISTE and IAHP. He has published more than 100 papers in reputed journals and has been serving as an Editorial Board Member of many reputed journals.

Prof. Pushpangadan has received many national and international medals/awards including the prestigious UNEP Borlaug Award in 1998, the UN-Equator Initiative Award in 2002 at World Summit at Johannesburg, South Africa in September 2002, Ayurved Gaurav Award 2009 and Padma Shri Award in 2010. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), the National Academy of Sciences (FNASc), the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (FNAASc) and also Fellow of Seven other Scientific Bodies in India. He is the President of National Society of Ethnopharmacology, India. He also served as the President of the International Society of Ethnopharmacology (1998- 2001), International Society of Environmental Botanist (April 1999 to Jan. 2006) and International Society for the Development of Natural Products (Nov. 2012 to Oct. 2014). He also served as Vice-President/Chairman/Vice Chairman/Member of many National and International scientific bodies/committees. He has visited over 79 countries in various capacities as Chairman/Leader of scientific delegation/Scientific Expert or to participate in International seminars/symposia or to chair the International Expert Panel to review research programmes. He is an excellent Kadhakali and Bharathanatyam artist.
